Centennial is proud to offer our students over 50 clubs and organizations that cover a variety of interests: athletic, academic, humanitarian, social, political, cultural, and many others. (Updated October 10, 2011)

Academic Bowl Team

The Academic Bowl team meets weekly and conducts mock Academic Bowl competitions. The team travels to various tournaments to compete against other high schools throughout the state. The team is a registered member of the Georgia Academic Team Association. The main goal of team meetings is to practice for local quiz bowl tournaments.

Accolade

The Accolade staff produces eight issues of the student newspaper each year. The staff researches, writes, edits, and designs all of the material for each paper. Staff members develop real-world journalism skills including desktop publishing skills and business management. The staff, comprised of sophomores, juniors, and seniors, is selected through an application process in the spring semester. Staff members are enrolled in a yearlong journalism class; other students may contribute to the paper.

American Sign Language Club

This is an opportunity for students to learn sign language to communicate.

Anchor Club

Anchor Club is a service organization for young women. Female students who are interested in serving the community complete a minimum number of volunteer service hours throughout the year and meet on a monthly basis.

Art Club

The Art Club is for students passionate about visual art who gather twice a month to help enhance their own enjoyment in art and to promote art at Centennial. In addition to creating their own works of art, the Art Club assists in enhancing the school environment and participates in art related events throughout the year.

Avalon

Avalon is Centennial’s literary/art magazine. Students can submit writing, artwork, and photography in the submission folders in their English classrooms or to G-59. Sophomores, juniors, and seniors interested in joining the staff can apply spring semester.

Beta Club

Beta Club is an honorary service club for students in grades 9-12. Students must have an 87 or better GPA and perform at least ten service hours per semester.

Breakfast Club French & Spanish Help

The Breakfast Club is a morning study session designed to help improve study skills and GPA. Students bring their own study materials, study guides for upcoming tests, and questions in subject areas. Students specifically struggling in French or Spanish can work with club sponsor, Mrs. Kelly.

Debate Team

The CHS Forensics League is a competitive team that focuses on creating future leaders of America. There is something for everyone in this club, whether you are trying to improve your speaking skills, interested in competitive debate, or striving to refine your poise, organization, and confidence in speaking. You should join if you are interested in any of the following:
  • counter arguments in debates
  • effective approaches to whole class discussions.
  • parliamentary procedure, debate, persuasive, informative, and impromptu speaking
  • confidence in various aspects of speaking
  • effective methods of giving a speech, including: poise, choosing topics, making valid points, and organization.

Environmental Club

The Environmental Club is committed to helping maintain and improve our school, local, and global environment. The club started in 2006 and has brought about both paper and plastic recycling to the school. We are always looking for new members!

Executive Student Council oversees most student council activities. Each year Executive Student Council plans and sets up the homecoming parade and dance, Hey Day, the teacher appreciation luncheon, and additional fundraisers. Executive Student Council officers are elected in the spring; they, in turn, select representatives for the various committees. The president and vice president of each class council also serve on the Executive Student Council.

Fellowship of Christian Athletes

Fellowship of Christian Athletes, or FCA, is a student-led organization that encourages fellowship and growth of personal faith. FCA meets on Friday mornings at 7:30 in the auditorium, where there are speakers, small roups, and awesome games and videos. It's a great place to have fun and make friends, so come see what we're all about!

Fencing Club

We are part of the fast-growing Georgia High School Fencing League (GHSFL), a league of a dozen area schools. Even though sword fighting goes way back, the official sport of fencing dates back to the 1700’s in France. Winning at fencing is a combination of many things: mind, flexibility, hand-eye coordination, and endurance. Fencing promotes balance, precision, and stamina. Practices are twice a week, and the season runs from September through March with tournaments each month. We have elected officers and the students really have a good time. A one-time investment in a weapon and protective gear is required.

French Club

The French Club is open to both students of French and to Francophiles. The club meets monthly focusing on varied cultural activities representing aspects of francophone culture. Yearly dues of $10 can be paid at the first meeting. Among those activities are a Mardi Gras celebration, an authentic French breakfast, a feature film presentation, and a French dinner. Meetings for 2010-11: September 9, October 21, November 18 (breakfast in celebration of National French Week), December 6, January 27, February 10, and March 8 (Mardi Gras), and April 14.

French Exchange Program

Biannually, students in the French program travel to Switzerland in the spring semester. The trip lasts for two weeks, and students have the opportunity to live with Swiss students and families, speak French continuously, and attend a Swiss school while immersing themselves in Swiss culture. These students also serve as host students when the Swiss students complete their leg of the exchange in the U.S. in October. Information will be sent home via French classes for the Swiss Exchange Program early in the second semester.

French Honor Society

The Société Honoraire de Français is an honorary organization whose aim is to stimulate interest in the study of French, to promote high standards of scholarship, and to reward scholastic achievements. Students must be in third year French or above and have an A average in French and an A during the semester of invitation. Students must have a cumulative grade of B in all other subjects.

Freshman Class Council

Students work together to make student life for freshmen fun and enriching. Council activities include: fall festival, football games, hall decorating, data match, and class contests.

FBLA plans activities that encourage leadership training, community service, school service, and competition in business type events. Students may join even if they aren’t taking a business class. We have a membership of 50+ students.

Gay-Straight Alliance

GSA addresses the concerns and questions of GLBTQ and straight youth in a safe and accepting environment, and strives to dispel myths, empower students, and provide educational resources, information, and support.

German Club

The German Club meets to enjoy cultural aspects of Germany not always available in a large-class setting. We discuss political and cultural events, host Oktoberfest and World Cup parties, and watch and discuss German films. During the years of the German Exchange, the German clubs accompanies the German students to cultural events around Atlanta, and helps to coordinate weekend trips.

German Exchange Program

Every two years, students in the German program travel to Germany in the spring semester. During their third year in German, students with over a 90% average in German, as well as a cumulative 85% average in all classes are inducted into the German Honor Society. In order to maintain membership until graduation, and subsequently receive a graduation cord, students are required to complete community service hours and maintain a determined GPA.

Harry Potter Club

This is a club for people with a passion for Harry Potter to have an opportunity to discuss the book series with like-minded people. Members not only discuss the books and movies, but also how they have influenced modern society. Differences in the portrayal of characters in parodies are discussed, as well as delving into the world of J.K. Rowling.

Health Occupations Students of America

HOSA is a club for students interested in pursuing careers in medicine. We participate in local, regional, and national competitions in healthcare knowledge and skills such as CPR, First Aid, and more. We develop future leaders in health care.

Improv Club

The Improv Club practices improvisational acting games as in the TV show Whose Line is it Anyway? Students develop self-confidence working on improvisational and stage presence acting. The Improv Club sponsors the waiters and waitresses at the annual dinner theatre performance. The club is open to anyone, no experience is necessary.

Interact Club

Sponsored by the Rotary Club of North Fulton, Interact is a service club which provides students with the opportunity to participate in fun, meaningful service projects while developing leadership skills and meeting new friends. Interact is an international organization that fosters leadership and responsible citizenship and promotes international understanding and peace. Interactors must complete at least one community service project and at least one project that furthers international understanding and goodwill. Interactors develop a worldwide network of friendships through exchanges with local and overseas clubs. Along the way, Interactors develop their leadership skills and initiative while meeting new friends.

Junior Class Council

The Junior Class Council is responsible for fundraising for and planning the Junior/Senior Prom. Class fundraisers include the annual Sally Foster sale and the Talent Show. The council is also involved in homecoming week festivities. Officers are elected in the spring. Representatives are chosen through an application process.

A national service organization that is supported by the Kiwanis Club. Students pledge to volunteer a minimum of 50 hours per year in an area of their choice.

Latino club is open to Hispanic students in grades 9-12. It promotes cultural diversity through cultural celebrations and social activities. The club’s mission is to enhance interaction among Latin students and to assist newly arrived immigrants from Spanish-speaking countries.

Students interested in careers in law enforcement have the opportunity to train with the Roswell Police Department. Members of Explorers can earn the privilege to ride along with officers and train for competitions. To learn more, see Dr. Washburn in the Law and Justice Lab.

Mu Alpha Theta

Mu Alpha Theta is the national mathematics honor society. The club is responsible for promoting mathematical excellence at Centennial through tutoring and other enrichment opportunities. Events in the past have included Hillside Math Day, Pi Day Celebrations, and Trivia Night at Buffalo Wild Wings Café. This club is designed for those who are strong in math and looking to apply their knowledge and strength in helping others and promoting fun and excitement in mathematical ideas.

Spanish Honor Society

The club is a select group of dedicated and passionate upper level Spanish students. We are a service/scholarship club providing assistance to the local Hispanic community as well as to our Centennial community. The students are able to use their Spanish in a variety of authentic settings. The students tutor Spanish 1-2 students, ESOL students, and serve as translators and student helpers at North Fulton Community Charities and other local community events. We are affiliated with the national organization.

Qualifications:
  • a cumulative average of 90 or higher after completion of two Spanish courses at the high school level
  • commitment to continue to the next level of Spanish

The student staff is responsibility for the creation of the yearbook. Students learn the fundamentals of graphic design, editorial writing, and business skills necessary to successfully produce a 500+ page book. Members must apply and be in at least the 10th grade.
